Shades of NS 999, an experimental battery-electric with Axion Energy's lead-carbon batteries. Those are lead-acid batteries with a carbon cathode plate. Haven't heard anything new and good about that project, only that Axion went bankrupt and liquidated everything including IPs.

Lithium is much more mature now, so maybe they'll have better luck. I like the idea of it as an energy storage braking van and booster. Just need to make it real reliable to make the raiload managers happy.
