One might apply a similar analysis (300 too long or 300 too soon, which has also been attributed to somebody from the Bank of California after seeing what they had financed, or the SP after acquiring it) to the current plans for HSR. Though to be realistic, it would have been difficult to sell a bond issue for $20-30B to the public for a separate Amtrak line over the Tehachapis so the San Joaquin trains could run all the way to LA. No glitz.

Haven't been over to Keeler. My haunting of the E. Sierra was farther north. Need to get out that way before the Ridgecrest quakes encourage something in the Owens Valley that knocka the remaining Keeler structures down.
