It was a GE 25 ton end cab or similar small switch locomotive. Maybe for construction of the "railroad", or to cover the trains until the Buzz'in Half Dozen Detroit Diesel Steamers arrived?

This search [Great America Amusement park trains GE 25 ton] [www.google.com] found this item "Crown locomotives at Busch Gardens, Tampa - Notice ..." about 50% down the page. That item includes this text, "Six Flags not only killed steam at SFOG, but has turned the remaining Harpur at Astroworld to crap (with a hideous Six Flags logo on the cab, and a heavily-mutilated stack)...if they even use it! Recently, I hear they are getting rid of the Magic Mountain 'Grand Centennial' trains; the John Bull and the GE 25-Ton which I believe came from a Kaiser plant somewhere down that ways.", about 30% down the page.

My search for [magic mountain ge 25 ton] [www.google.com] turned up this item: "Magic Mountain Pics - Disney Railroads Discussion B...", about 20% down the page.

Pacific News' November 1974 issue [PDF] has a multi-page article, with photos, about the "Narrow Gauge in the Tehachapis" (beginning on page 10), but the article barely mentions the 25-ton GE. Other APers may also want to take a look at this magazine's articles about BART, Muni, etc., from a time when today's yesteryear was now.
