Colorado Rail Car designed an intercity diesel tilt train for the Oregon DOT for potential use between Portland and Eugene The four car set had a baggage section, business class, food service area and coach class seats. The set was designed to cut off a car in Albany which would continue on to Corvallis. Operation simulations showed that the tilting feature equaled the performance of the Talgo. The set also met FRA crash specifications. Eventually, TriMet in Portland purchased three sets for commuter service between Beaverton and Wilsonville. Just imagine the commuter version but with with high end intercity seats.
It is too bad that Colorado Rail Car ran into financial difficulties associated with their ownership of the American Orient Express and went bankrupt. They had a good product that could have found a home in many local and intercity services.
