Yes, 844 crack about 3 tubes at the firebox end, while being fired up on the grounds of the California State RR Museum, during the 1999 Railfair. The grounds were not yet open to the public, but all the hot water, steam and soot tended to come back down on the UP souvenir tent, adjacent to the 844 display sight.
IIRC an employee was injured.
The late Lynn Nystrom was the Fireman on duty, and after shutting off the fuel to the fire, when he heard the tubes crack, he exited the cab. He received a slight "sun burn" type burn from the wet steam, and walked over to the nearby first-aid station. He was back at the 844 display site within 20 minutes, and we both watched 844 continue to drain herself. I wouldn't call a "sunburn" an injury.
