I just finished a round-trip on 6 and 5 from Sacramento to Utah (I will try to post a trip report over the weekend). I don't recall waiting for any UP trains throughout the trip. Heck, I don't recall seeing many freights in general -- UP must be running them on the ex-WP through Feather River and then over the Lucin Cutoff.

There was a lot of start-and-stopping on 5 between SLC and Elko though (and some rough riding that I didn't notice on 6).

I think the Zephyr is continuing to get delays from the BNSF portion of the route.
