WP&Y Class 90 Rebuilds

In October 2008, two White Pass & Yukon Class 90 locomotives arrived at Coast Engine and Equipment Company in Tacoma, Washington for rebuilding. Since there are no narrow gage tracks in Tacoma, WP&Y #90 and #98 were trucked to CEECo. The locomotives were off loaded and placed on standard gage freight trucks for movement around CEECo's facility. Over the next five months, the units will acquire modern diesels and alterations, rebuilt and upgraded electric traction motors, and a micro processor-based control system. The new diesels will develop 1,400 horsepower and be supplied by Cummins. (The original diesel supplied 930 horsepower for #90.)
