Many many years ago I was working for a sound company in LA and I remember a shipping company ordered some JBL 2" compression drivers (same ones used for large stadium and arena paging systems and concert sound systems)
They used the 2' drivers on large long throw horn coupled to a 200 watt amp to an electronic midrange controler
Was very loud and just about sounded like the mid-range steam whistle
I guess they only last 10 years before the salt spray rusts them inside and out
