Bruce and I painted the engine in 1991. It was a blast. We had previously painted a Pacific Electric car at Pomona and so the engine was another fun project. We always were looking for new projects.
It seems to me that as it's been nearly three decades since we did the job with no new paint on the engine, it's not being taken care of in Dunsmuir if the town doesn't even have enough interest in it to paint it again. We did the job for $1,000. Five hundred a piece plus materials. You'd either have to find two railfan-type guys who knew what the were doing and would charge less than the going rate, or pay to have it done by professional painters which would involve a lot of detail work.
If Dunsmuir cannot take care of it, pass it off to some organization who can.
