Trainnews volume 1 issue 19

Note: I will be traveling for the next few days, posting times will vary. Also keep the pictures coming, remember they need to be news worthy, otherwise I will use them for filler in the future.

To honor military personnel currently serving our nation and veterans, the
Strasburg Railroad conducted their annual "Troops & Trains" event November 8th and
9th. This event is staged just before each Veterans Day to emphasize the important
role that railroads have played during every military conflict our nation has faced
since the Civil War. A special "mixed train" was operated over their five mile line
several times each day of the event, which consisted of seven vintage freight cars
and three coaches, and was powered by ex-Canadian Pacific 0-6-0 No. 7312. This
train represented a typical mixed train operated during World War II to transport
troops and equipment. Re-enactors dressed in period military uniforms rode each
train and strolled about the station area between runs to talk about the railroad?s
involvement during past wars. The mixed train ran 30 minutes after the regular
passenger run, and two trains passed each other at Groffs siding. This photo was
taken on Sunday November 9th, as the mixed train was departing Groffs siding to
head back to Strasburg as the regular passenger run was departing the opposite end.
