On of my childhood memories is of going to the dome car to see the stars. Now we boarded in Dunsmuir, headed for the Bay Area (my grandparents were in Walnut Creek, so I'm not certain of where we got off the train--hey I was probably only about 5 years old, and the only part of going to the dome I remember was that on the way my Mom got a little ahead of me, and the vestibule door closed behind her, leaving me in this dark, noisy vestibule. Fortunately I stepped forward and the air-powered door opened and I ESCAPED into the next car. I wish I had more memories of riding in the train, but that's the only one that has stuck with me.
So, yes, the Daylight wasn't always in the daylight.
