BNSF Stampede Sub

4AM today, a "variance" in the regular eastbound: Instead of head end power, a string of empty cars and then either nothing or a DPU, this morning had head end power, a string of empty cars, two or three mid-train DPUs, a string of empty cars trailed by a single DPU.
This is the first I have noticed this. Could the BNSF emulating the UP? Or perhaps just a one off? Has anybody noticed this before? I do not keep too close an eye on my neighbors, but I do notice oddities. The consist was two complete trains in length, the time to pass went from 2 minutes to a bit less than 5 minutes.
