There was a railfan in the Fort Worth area who kept detailed and copious train sightings at hot spot Tower 55. Someone must have alerted the authorities about this obviously dangerous character. IIRC, the FBI was involved and convinced themselves that the only reason someone would do such a thing must be planning a terrorist act. This was shortly after 9-11. The individual signed a consent decree stating he would never go back to Tower 55. His notes were probably confiscated as well.

Just goes to show that ones "freedoms" are highly conditional to what is going on in the broader society.
