The one in the Freedom Train colors is at Yuba Gap on SP's Donner Pass Line. The freeway in the photo is Interstate 80 near the Highway 20 exit. The outside track is where the City of San Francisco was snowbound in January of 1952. That track has since been removed leaving only the #2 track which 4449 is on.
The second is at Oakland with SP's 16th St. Depot in the background and Desert Yard to the right. The depot still stands although it was severly damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The rest of the railroad facilities have been replaced by the new section of Interstate 880 which replaced the double deck Cypress section of 880 which collapsed in the earthquake.
