There are two bridges at Harper's Ferry. The mainline bridge that connects Baltimore to Chicago and a second bridge that connects Charles Town, Virginia with the mainline at the Harper's Ferry Tunnel. This derailment happened on the Charles Town Bridge. The Appalachian Trail has nothing to do with this bridge. This sounds like a news media mistake.
