My only "cab ride" in a drawbridge

Wow - someone actually looked at those photos.

In 1993, our vacation took us to NorCal to visit family and friends. One warm day, I chased the NWP Sprint Train from Petaluma to Suisun and back. When I got to Black Point, bridgetender John Ogden suggested that the definitive shot was to hoof it across the bridge and shoot from the east bank of the Petaluma River. I quickly took him up on his suggestion.

After the train passed I returned to the other side of the river. Ogden asked if I would like to accompany him as he reset the bridge for marine traffic to pass. He did warn me that it would require a ride in a rowboat.

I am really glad I took him up on his offer. It was really something to see the machinery at the top of the bridge.
