I took a pretty good look at the Hood River RR when the locals put it up on the market and concluded it would have been a really difficult operation to keep afloat. Freight traffic did increase and Ellis's people did replace quite a bit of the old and worn out passenger equipment. The washout a few years back probably would have done me in, but somehow the railroad survived. I just don't think there is enough traffic to justify keeping the line alive, though.
