Good old Pee-Bee.

I drove alongside the PB-designed track for Sound Transit on Mercer Island. It is ballasted with the ballast shoulder feet away from Interstate 90 and maybe 6' above freeway grade. Any ordinary bee with half a brain would have gone with direct fixation on concrete slab. Someday a MOW machine (or piece of dragging equipment) will send ballast flying into freeway traffic. Any bee-sized brain can imagine what a chunk of ballast rock can do to your grandma's Honda or Toyota.
