70-lb rail, untreated 60-year-old redwood ties, dirt for ballast, and a couple high-steppin' Pacifics was a recipe for derailments. They were pretty common out there at Hunter's Point... just didn't catch many on video!

We ultimately tore out the switch that the Sub derailed on and straight-tracked that stretch. As I recall the switch the 72's tender got hung up on was actually in halfway-decent shape. Don't remember what exactly happened there. We seemed to never stop working on that track at that end of the yard.
