Ma p'tite souris- Your obsessive crusade against decisions made 50-60 years ago makes about as much sense as railing (pardon the pun) against I.K. Brunel's 7'0" version or his use of vacuum/air pressure as propulsion using 19th century technology.
Some of us who were around during BART's construction and early implementation were skeptical to be sure, but imagine the roads today without it, warts and all.
