For those that can do math, everybody needs to look at it this way...IF you retire from a Class One Road, chances are good you can live off the retirement. HOWEVER, shortlines only pay a FRACTION of the wages of Class Ones folks...so your retirement is a FRACTION OF A FRACTION...somehow I highly doubt all of this was thought thru while the Class Ones were dumping lines like bad habits starting 30 years ago. In this day and age of working two or three jobs to get by...I don't see anybody wanting to flip burgers for an evening after stuffing ties in a railroad track all day....
