The only modification to the pilot on the 4449 that I'm aware of was a steel cover plate fabricated to fit over the "real" pilot to protect it during the filming of "Tough Guys".

It was removed after the filming and the 4449 regained its original appearance.

I know this for sure as Samuels Steel was hired to do the work!
