Hermiston watermelons

I bought one a few days ago expecting it not to be very sweet. Sure enough, it isn’t as sweet as the ones I bought in mid summer grown elsewhere. Why are Hermiston melons bland and did the U.P. haul melons in their now defunct reefer business?
