The Milwaukee Road abandoned its line west of Miles City in 1980. The Montana Rail Link was formed in 1987. While some Milwaukee Road employees got jobs with BN, I doubt others "shrugged it off" as you put it for seven years until Montana Rail Link began operations.

The book to which you refer is Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer.

What happened in Missoula has happened all over the United States. Missoula is sadly not unique.

Again, not unique to Missoula. Many college towns (including my home town, State College, PA ) have problems with drunken football fans. At least Missoula has an active railroad passing through. The last railroad line to State College was abandoned in 1974.

Maybe your beef is with Missoula, not fans of the Milwaukee Road's Lines West.
