Steel bridge damage - if it was a brush fire not a grass fire temps could get high enough to damage steel supports. Also, the fire could have gotten the ties and possibly wooden deck going, which even if the actual bridge structure isn't damaged would take some time and effort to replace. So I agree with the original poster: if the line isn't an important one with significant traffic it's likely all over for it. Are there any stranded cars at shippers beyond the burnt portion?
