Interesting press release by the contractor. The mud pot has been there (as the story noted) since the 1950s and has been slowly moving through. In some of the pics you can see a UP shoofly - the main pool is now between the tracks. For more/older stories google "Niland Geyser" or "Niland Mud Geyser."

Wonder if it will change any with the current earthquake swarm going on near Westmoreland and Calipatria southwest of the geyser.
