The repair was to the trunnion, essentially a big axle atop the tower that the counterweight cables are attached to. 15 years ago one of the Interstate Bridges' trunnions was cracked and replaced. A couple weeks ago, the other bridge's trunnions were replaced. No Amtrak commuter train this time around. The first time around the repair was expected to take three weeks but the bridge was only closed to traffic for just over one week. This time around the contractors were given just over a week, and still did the job and reopened the bridge a day or two early.
