Back on track: too bad they couldn't find another $10-15B. A fair stab at Bakersfield-LA could be made with $30B, though these days it would probably take closer to $40B to finish the job. Doing SJ-Merced just duplicates, roughly, the San Joaquins Amtrak service (ignoring the northern SJ Valley).
