The stuff is also called "Georgia kaolin". Kaolin is a special white clay which, after firing, produces the white porcelain of china, which is called "china" because the Chinese invented the process of making it some 1,200-2,000 years ago (and kept the process secret). The Europeans (re-)developed the process in the 1700s. Georgia kaolin is also used in paper making, rubber processing, electrical insulators, dentistry, and so on.
