Yes, steam whistles fed off a line from the boiler. On the 25, it was carried on the tender deck. Calliopes typically use low pressure steam (usually around 20 lbs)and are also known as a "Steam Piano." Typically around 32 notes, although some are larger. Lots of recordings on U-tube of the steamboat calliopes from recent years, and a few Circus ones too. Travis Vasconcelos can really make a calliope "sing" so I would listen to some of his recordings.
