If train length requires it then a train is split in half right at Dunsmuir into two trains. An extra board crew is called in addition to the regular pool crew and they each take half of the train to Grass Lake. There the two pieces of train are reassembled into one train and the extra board crew returns light power to Dunsmuir while the pool crew continues on with the train to Klamath Falls.
