I am surprised that UP has not outsourced snow plowing as they have done with wrecks, rail grinding, equipment maintenance, etc. The line must not be so important as to warrant the dollars to lure R. J. Corman, Loram, Halliburton or other private contractors into plowing snow. A cow sneezes on a BNSF line in Kansas and BNSF issues a service advisory. UP Donner Pass conditions do not seem to garner a sense of urgency (not unlike the Moffat Tunnel line) as long as the FRC alternate exists. Is it possible that the UP does not want to invest on Donner Pass and is destined to become a Tennessee Pass ghost? Or a bike trail?
