The only segment of the Richard M. Nixon Freeway to be completed ended at Culver City Blvd. this is adfacent to where the old PE (and even older once upon a time ATSF) branches to Venice and Inglewood met at Marina Del Rey... The Culver City job often made this perilous crossing in the wee hours, after the bars closed, when you had to watch out for the drunks who tried to broadside the train... One night this guy came flying off drunk and swerved to miss us, lost control and rolled, right in fromt of the CHIP's waiting for the drunks to come flying off of the freeway...
There was an urban legend I used to hear, when I lived down on the Penninsula near the Marina jetty, that what would have been a fairly large Caltans freeway sign at that location for the Richard M. Nixon Freeway was stolen, and remained for many years in someone's back yard in Venice....
And, I do note, that we finally have finished close out in 2019 of the Imperial/Orangethorpe grade separation, after nearly 60 years since it was first proposed... It only took another 40 years to start the environmental clearance, and then nearly another fifteen years to fully fund and finally construct....
