The SP had things around when I hired out in '69 that were gone within a year, or just a few years, like the Colton ice decks and iced reefers, that I was lucky enough to see the last of... I got to work firing the Old Colton helpers, and go to work at the Old Colton 1879 roundhouse. I got to work the East end as a newly promoted hoghead for the last summer out of Indio... Lucky timing, the best time to work in railroading.... Then I did the other career, doing the transit and highway stuff...
