UP is still working to get traffic down to a manageable level as per PSR (thanks Hunter) so
traffic is still on the decline on UP. BNSF has benefitted from UP's PSR. UP is one of the railroads shippers are complaining about. Most shippers are only getting half the cars they order -- lumber in particular and UP says they are working on it. Most locals only get one
unit no matter the tonnage so that slows things down too. Gotta keep more power in storage and close hump yards so they can switch blocks in the middle of no where so they don't show terminal dwell times. Try flat switching over the hump with just the independent brake. It's really a thrill. Oh, yeah, for safety, you can't kick cars any more, more slowing down.
Yup, PSR really is more efficient. You notice Hunter Harrison never stuck around any railroad he screwed up long enough to see how it really turned out --- but everybody else really thinks he is a hero!!
