Brightline and CAHSR connection a possible reroute?

I was looking at the proposed Victor Valley to Palmdale line on the Brightline web page along with their proposed line from Victor Valley to Metrolink over Cajon Pass. It got me thinking, could the CAHSR route be over Cajon instead of doing the tunnels straight into LA? CAHSR is already wandering all over the state so why not come into LA from the east instead of the north? It doesn't look like it would be all that far out of the way. Plus it would avoid the higher priced real estate on the north side of LA. The reroute would miss Burbank Airport but would pick up stations on the proposed phase 2 portion.

Personally I agree with Bob2 that the whole thing has become a overfunded government fiasco. But it's interesting that a private company, Brightline, thinks that they can make money running Palmdale to Las Vegas as well and LA to LV. Why can't the CAHSR be looked at from a business standpoint and they too look for ways to get things done at a lower cost.
