The 1949 aerial view of the Redmond Cut on historicaerials.com shows what looks like a shoo-fly around the north side of the hill that the cut passes through. I guess it was used as a short passing track.

In the next image (1959) it appears the track has been lifted, but the path still exists.

Plug in these coordinates 37.730524, -121.624337

The path is still visible on the latest Google Maps. It appears to be used as a dirt road,
