First, there is no "pressure" in the smoke box of ANY steam locomotive. That is where the vacuum is created by the exhaust nozzle, in order to draw combustion air into the firebox.

The door/doors are sealed with a 2" wide fiberglass "rope" casketing material so that no outside air enters the smokebox, which would seriously effect the required vacuum.
