The plan calls for building a 200-mile commuter rail system stretching from the U.S.-Mexico border to downtown San Diego, El Cajon and Oceanside by 2050. It includes two massive transit stations, including one potentially in Old Town dubbed “San Diego Grand Central,” as well as a “San Ysidro Mobility Hub.”
SANDAG’s plan also calls for relocating the existing tracks along the crumbling Del Mar cliffs by 2035. The city’s mayor, Terry Gaasterland, said Friday that she had no choice but to vote “yes” on the plan.
“How unfair it is to be on a trolley and bus transfer, maybe two transfers, then walking with a case of water or a gallon of milk or a five-pound sack of potatoes to make ends meet, put food on the table,” said National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. “That’s what our working families are facing in National City and throughout our region.”
I can't say I've eveer seen someone carrying a sack of potatoes on transit.
