It wasn't a perfectly shaped horseshoe curve like the Pennsy's near Altoona, but the trains used a broad, sweeping curve and basically changed directions as they were climbing westbound out of Spokane and Ft. Wright toward Lyons. This routing was abandoned with the 1971 BN line change involving the Latah Creek Bridge.

It looks like a drone or a hot air balloon would have been required for a good photo, and drones didn't exist back then.
