Key 186 was in the middle of a repaint project twenty years ago that never was finished. It is essentially intact. When parts are needed to keep one of the other units running, they are fabricated rather than by taking them from 186. The only things taken from 186 were some seat cushions that were exchanged for the bad cushions in the other units. Key 186 could run again in the future.

It has been stored under cover at Rio Vista Junction for over 20 years. It is well protected; that is more than you can say for the other existing unit outside RVJ.

A lot of bridge unit headlights still exist. Apparently fans were able to "liberate" them when the units were being scrapped in Oakland.
