I visited the rolling stock display while out photographing the NRHS Convention's "Western Star" excursion July 6, 2005. I had shot the train with its doubleheaded 4-8-4s (SP 4449 and SP&S 700) at Stevenson, then went over to the Interpretive Center.
Although it prevents "clean" photos of the F9A, the access platform to the locomotive cab is also a good viewpoint for the adjacent BNSF Fallbridge Sub, which parallels Wash. Hwy. 14 next to the Interpretive Center. You can also see UP trains across the Columbia River passing through Cascade Locks, Ore.
The "Western Star" trip, in addition to the two Northerns, also had an excellent consist of private varnish, It included North Star Rail's ex-MILW "Super Dome" #53 and "Skytop" parlor-observation "Cedar Rapids", as well as ex-CZ dome coach "Silver Lariat".
