We are indeed lucky that so much has been preserved. I made many visits to the DRGW ng. between 1960 and 1968, but when freight service was abandoned I assumed it was over and went on to other things. While I was not totally ignorant of what was going on, nevertheless it was quite a surprise to return some years later and see so much had been preserved. Sure, much has changed, but at the same time so much has not changed. And it is even more amazing that now 40 years after abandonment of freight service that the D&S and C&TS can still run a fairly authentic photo freight for fans like myself, not to mention show the general public a bit of what railroading used to be like.
