As a person who’s had to go to more than my share of Crossing Accidents there’s no underestimating the stupidity of the general public. The greatest safety advance in this area was the forward facing cameras installed on locomotives. It’s amazing how many potential lawsuits got dropped when the video was shown. Suddenly so many excuses about the gates or lights not working or the engineer didn’t blow the horn just disappeared.

As for suicides, there’s no real way to stop a determined individual.
