My father-in-law as Asst. General Supv. for Roadway Work Equipment for WP always applied for an annual concealed weapon permit in the 1950's & 60's. How much he packed on the job is hard to say. Don't think WP had any prohibition on an official in those days. One can see how MOW work might necessitate a need for protection, in certain locals.
