Although the Transbay terminal wasn't damaged by the 1989 Earthquake. The stated susceptibility of the Terminal to earthquakes was used as an excuse to do a whole bunch of sleazy real estate deals, resulting in the Salesforce tower and a bunch of other deals. When I started working here in 1981, I had to do a daily Ac Transit trip across the bridge to get to work. The Transbay Terminal was so cool back then; if you missed your bus, you could get a egg muffin for $2.00 and chat to some friendly people. Now, there's nothing there except a few vending machines. Although to be fair, bus frequencies are much better now!
