There were plenty of parts of steam engines strewn about to "mix and match" that were rusting away in the "collection" at Merrill. And changing out tenders was a common practice on many roads over the years.
But what is important is that it's good to see some of the more salvagable engines and tenders are finding new homes and hopefully new uses...
There were several "gems" like this that were in relatively good shape compared to some of the other "piles" of rusting parts in Merrill. It's great that some of these engines and "parts" of engines can still be made "useful", as Thomas would say.
I love the job they've done up on the V&T. More successful well run enterprises like this are what is really vital to being able to successfully save, restore, and operate equipment like this for future generations to marvel at and enjoy.
