Interesting that at Idaho Ave. they did what I would expect: detoured the existing road around the construction then are building the overcrossing in a straight line with the rest of the road. But at Excelsior and most of the others they are swinging out with the new bridge and planning to cut off the existing road when the new work is done. So the road will have a pair of (gentle) S-turns that will inevitably gather up the late-night speeders. Oh well. Caltrans does the same thing with freeway overcrossings, often, so people should pay attention. Just seem like, with all-new construction like this, they would try to minimize future hassles for drivers.
