From the M-N article:
The company disclosed last year that the Santa Clara factory’s days were numbered and that it had struck a deal to sell the property, which occupies a choice Silicon Valley location, to Panattoni Development Co., a real estate firm.
“Owens Corning has entered into an agreement to sell the company’s Insulation site in Santa Clara to commercial real estate developer Panattoni,” Owens Corning stated in July 2021.
Panattoni Development has floated a preliminary proposal for a redevelopment of the 41.9 acres at the corner of Central Expressway and Lafayette Street where a new project would replace the factory.
The real estate firm has proposed three options for the development of the site. The project would consist of some combination of data center, industrial, logistics, or warehouse buildings.
“The proposed project would demolish all the existing structures on-site and develop three new speculative buildings,” Panattoni Development stated in a filing with Santa Clara planners.
There are several data centers already built within a few mile radius of that site, which tap into the city of Santa Clara's municipal electric utility system, Silicon Valley Power. And with global technology companies such as Intel, Nvidia and Applied Materials with HQs in Santa Clara, there virtually no chance that Santa Clara will turn into San Bernardino.
