Truxton, Arizona, new fly-over

Definition of "kludge": A clumsy or inelegant solution to a problem.

Trains has a pic and graphic on BNSF's new fly-over at Truxton on the ATSF (southern transcon). Looks like the model railroad I had as a kid.

"The flyover — which cost approximately $34 million — eliminates an estimated 35,000 at-grade crossover moves per year, and the accompanying operational disruptions. Rasmussen says it eliminates 900 operating conflicts a week"

"Approaches to the bridge had to stay under the ruling grade for the area of 1.4%."

Cost: $34 Million.
